Why waste time making a meal if you can prepare it the day before and let it cook during the day. Slow cookers are an excellent way to save time and get even better tasting food. In a previous article we were able to make a full meal for Thanksgiving using the slow cooker, check it out here.
Not only can slow cookers save time but it adds more flavor due to the way the ingredients all mix and build off of each other. Spend that time with friends and family, leave the whole cooking process to a crock pot. If you don’t have a slow cooker currently, I recommend getting one with time, and trying one of the slow cooker Christmas recipes below.
Crock-Pot Apple Cider Ham
Slow cooking ham allows the sweetness and flavor of the apple cider to seep into the meat. This is an easy recipe that takes care of the main dish. It is perfect for Christmas as well as other family gatherings.
Make sure to use bone-in ham to get the best flavor. Smoked ham can make this dish a bit different and is not recommended.
1 Whole Bone-On Ham
2 1/2 Gallon of Apple Cider/Juice
3/4 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 Cup Maple Syrup
1 Whole Orange (sliced)
1 Tbls Cinnamon
1 Tbls Ground Nutmeg
2 Tbls Ground Ginger
1 Tbls Pure Vanilla Extract
Place ham into the slow cooker crock pot. Mix together the apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla as well as ginger. Make sure to completely dissolve as much as you can. Pour this over the ham. Cut the orange into slices and place this on the top and sides of the ham. Spread the brown sugar all around the sides. The last step is to top the top with the maple syrup.
Cook on low for 6 hours or until tender.
